Dynamic Query Execution for SAP Business One

Saltbox now supports executing SELECT queries through the SAP Business One Connectors (B1 Connectors), including both SAP Business One for HANA (Service Layer) Connector and SAP Business One for SQL (B1WebAPI) Connector.

Queries can be run from a file saved in a Saltbox project or workflow, or directly from a Saltbox message (for example, from a file downloaded from SFTP). This gives teams more flexibility when retrieving SAP Business One data, whether the query is reusable and maintained as a project asset or supplied as part of an external file service (like SFTP).

This feature provides an alternative way to handle query deployment versus installing queries directly in the Query Manager for SAP Business One.Key benefits include:

Centralized query change management is handled by Saltbox. Within Saltbox files, file history is tracked along with rollback capability and change logs. This applies when using the Saltbox SQL Query File actions to execute a query in a B1 Connector.
Deployments are simplified, as Saltbox can contain all assets (including SQL query files) in a single project. Promote versions within a project (such as from Staging to Production), or use Saltbox Project Templates to bundle all assets together as a single deployable version.
This feature supports SELECT queries only, helping teams retrieve the data they need while keeping query execution controlled and read-only.
Query files can be downloaded from SFTP or similar sources using SFTP Utility Connector. Cache the query to improve workflow efficiency using the Get a File with Caching action, then use the Input Message SQL Query actions in a B1 Connector to execute it.
- Access must be enabled per tenant before queries can be run using a SQL query contained within a message's contents. If permission is not enabled, the action will fail on the Messages page with error code 9390.

Getting Started

To use Saltbox Connectors that support executing queries from a file or Saltbox message:

SAP Business One for HANA (Service Layer) Connector actions require the latest versions of the HANA query extension.
SAP Business One for SQL (B1WebAPI) Connector actions require the latest version of the B1WebAPI web client.

If using B1 Connector actions that run SQL queries using files hosted in the Saltbox workflow or project, no additional configuration is required.

If using B1 Connector actions that run SQL queries using Saltbox messages (such as those downloaded from SFTP), an opt-in permission flag must be enabled for each tenant. To enable it, request access from your Saltbox implementation team.

Troubleshooting

Error code 9390 will occur on messages that use message-based SQL queries within a tenant that does not have sufficient permissions. To resolve this issue, request access to "allow execution of external SQL queries" from your Saltbox implementation team.

Once permission to run message-based SQL queries has been enabled, retry the workflow manually from the Messages page.
